01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

For a savoury bite at Hakusendo, start with the ikayaki, a squid-filled pancake. The menu offers it plain, with egg, or with egg and vegetables, as well as a Deluxe option for a larger serving. Visitors have described the ikayaki as rich in dashi flavour, while one said the version with egg made a satisfying snack. A diner also reported being able to add mayonnaise themselves.

For something sweet, there’s ice-cream monaka and soft-serve. One visitor enjoyed the contrast between the crisp monaka wafer and the soft, smooth ice cream; another chose the matcha ice-cream monaka. The menu also includes Anmitsu Soft and Azuki Soft, both served with soft-serve, as well as Anmitsu Mame, a dessert with agar jelly. There are options for a light treat or a more substantial dessert.

A customer who ordered the “3-colour dessert” said they were able to leave out a flavour they disliked and have it made with chocolate, lemon sorbet and vanilla instead. Shaved ice comes in flavours including mizore, strawberry, lemon, melon and matcha, making it an option for a refreshing dessert after a meal.

The café is tucked behind the candy shop, bringing together the pleasure of browsing traditional sweets and sitting down for ikayaki or dessert. Toast with coffee is also available for those who would rather have a light meal than something sweet. The café is described as suitable for solo diners, so you can choose between a savoury pancake and a pause over ice-cream monaka, depending on your mood.
